ABSTRACT

The accompanying classic by-products of psychosis are anxiety and depression; those minor little symptoms had to be dealt with. The journey of traversing up the mountain of total recovery from psychosis felt arduous and treacherous. It was made all the more lonely because there seemed to be no other travellers to cheer us on to the summit of a cure. In psychosis, as long as the psychiatric medication model is followed, a favourable outcome is presumed, even though it is generally acknowledged there are no cures. Nevertheless, the restitution narrative of psychosis, which can include a life-long sentence of psychiatric medication, is the one most commonly favoured in society as the only possible message of hope on offer. Society is suppressing the truth about the suffering around psychosis and its treatment and that truth must be told.
