ABSTRACT

In the following chapter I discuss concepts that are important when working with difference, such as Bowlby’s Attachment Theory; Winnicott’s concept of Hate in Countertransference; Klein’s concepts of paranoid–schizoid position, projective identification and depressive position; various perceptions on the concept of internalization and Bollas’ concept of extractive introjection. I also look at some essential definitions, such as culture, cultural competence, colour blind, racial ideology, racism, internalized racism, institutional racism, and cultural racism.
