ABSTRACT

I suffered institutional racism, racial discrimination, and victimization at work over a three-year period without doing anything about it. I accepted that these were stereotypical beliefs/projections that Blacks need to learn to put up with. The last straw was when my eldest brother, Sam, died. I was refused compassionate leave because he was not considered a close relative, yet a White colleague was given compassionate leave for a father-in-law. I believe my complaints were about the stereotypical phantasies projected onto Blacks, who then become containers of these unwanted negative projections.
