ABSTRACT

In addition to art and photography, Lynn taught high school history, and it made sense to her that she would end up with someone in a similar field on a more advanced level. Lynn wondered if she should do more with her studies, although neither the gruelling work nor the politics of the academic rat race appealed to her. Lynn was apologetic about coming to therapy. Her husband Andy found the idea of therapy abhorrent. Lynn began therapy by talking about the most obviously disturbing element in her family, her brother Lou. Lynn sensed how self rises and falls in therapy. Lynn continued talking about her anger, confusion, and silences. Lynn experienced a fuller sense of what she went through growing up and for some moments was able to relax deeply. Lynn’s dip into emotionality involved anger and sexuality. Lynn spent a good deal of time trying to get her mother to respond to her as she really was.
