ABSTRACT

There are many issues raised by systemic concepts that are unique to the field of psychoanalysis and to the challenge of its science. The therapist manifestly ignored the patient's mention of the former patient, and he missed entirely the patient's responsive derivative perceptions. The therapist shared the non-meaning, defensive aspect of the patient's communications. Derivative messages from therapists and reactions in patients that are inappropriate to the therapeutic relationship and its assigned roles also tend to load heavily on I/M weightings. The issue of metabolizing high loads of I/M exists for both patients and therapists, though each is subjected to special types of stress less often experienced by the other. Smooth functioning of the mental processing system leads to an optimal degree of awareness. The therapist should therefore strive to control pathological tendencies deviatitly to seek relief from SOL and should, instead, attempt self-analytic and insightful resolution of the problems that have lead to this condition.
