ABSTRACT

Every society reminds its members of the existence of the sexual difference, but in an arbitrary manner, by imposing attitudes and ways of doing things. Sex is not everything, but sex makes the world go round. In everyday life, women are perhaps treated as sex objects in the way that has so been denounced. Homosexuality occurs in animals and, in one form or another, is found in all human societies. Every society has to confront the sexual difference. Sigmund Freud spoke of Miterregung, a term that appears under various guises in the Standard Edition: sympathetic excitement, libidinal sympathetic excitation, excitation, accompanying excitation, accompanying sexual excitation, and concomitant sexual excitation. Sex is not everything, but sex makes the world go round. In the various oeuvres that culture offers, sex only appears to be forgotten. In everyday life, women are perhaps treated as sex objects in the way that has so been denounced.
