ABSTRACT

My therapeutic purpose as an analyst is not to cure symptoms. There are other techniques, quicker and more tidy, that compete well for that market. The strength of analysis is to help us find ourselves, to reveal the person we are when not hiding. To the extent that we do that uncovering, we know we are intact, are less likely to blame others, to be victims, to say “I can’t” when we mean “I won’t,” to be enraged and bitter, or to fetishize others.
