ABSTRACT

In this chapter, the authors discuss how they work on the fraternal complex in the Under Five Service. They present two cases where the family members did not work through the fraternal complex, which led to a developmental impasse in the children and within the family relationships. The authors examine how they interpret both directly to the child and the parents regarding their inner conflicts, and in this way the impediments to development seem to diminish. They show that a limited number of sessions it is possible to work on issues concerning the fraternal complex and its interaction with the Oedipus complex. Many authors agree that the fraternal complex plays a role in forming these relationships and is intertwined with the Oedipus complex. The authors also show that issues linked to the dynamics of the fraternal complex can knot the yarn of the family warp, thus often resulting in difficulties and symptomatic behaviours.
