ABSTRACT

One programme has been pivotal in helping to shape social dreaming as a tool of action research and consultancy. This programme, entitled "Social Dreaming as Memoirs of the Future: An Action Research Project", has been held for three years at the William Alanson White Institute in New York. The dream is the classic link between the finite and the infinite, the conscious and the unconscious. "A night dream is a spontaneous symbolic experience lived out in the inner world during sleep. The primary task of a social dreaming matrix is usually: "To associate to one's own and others' dreams as made available to the matrix so as to make links and find connections". Dreaming makes the dreamer aware that what is taken for granted in waking life can be made non-sense of during sleep when rationality is suspended.
