ABSTRACT

This chapter summarises what, from Alan Mulhern's book, the author have received and made the authors' own, from a psychosynthesis stance, in relation to what he aptly describes as "healing intelligence". It sets out approach to psycho spiritual therapy—psychotherapy and counselling with soul—building upon Mulhern's approach by incorporating the shamanic psychology and practice described. Mulhern writes of an "inner directing centre, a guidance system" in the unconscious, "capable of directing and developing personality", a "subtle yet powerful healing intelligence that permeates the psyche". Mulhern adopts the reasonable supposition that, "whatever process happens in the outer world to promote healing, it must stimulate some inner, largely unconscious, process in the inner world that brings it about". Mulhern includes "humour" among the attributes of the "world of phantasy". The path is a "spiritual" journey because it unfolds as spirit comes into matter, or, put another way, as our latent qualities and creative potential are realised.
