ABSTRACT

The training of psychotherapists can never be better than the competence of its supervisors. Personal suitability for supervision and teaching is assessed through interviews. The majority of applicants have been very well qualified psychotherapists. The goals for supervising the supervision are, of course, very similar to psychotherapy supervision. Like the psychotherapy supervisor, the teacher in the supervision group functions as a model in relation to the participants. The overall goal for supervision training has been to train competent psychotherapy supervisors and help them develop a professional identity as supervisors. Supervising the supervision has been of greatest importance in this effort. After the course has been passed the student receives a Certificate in the Supervision and Teaching of Psychotherapy. This certificate is a requirement for a psychotherapist to be a supervisor in the various approved Swedish trainings of psychotherapists that lead to a Government Licence to practice.
