ABSTRACT

Physical survival and resilience are essential, but to be able to survive psychologically and emotionally, the fears and residues of traumatic beginnings have to be calmed. All the clinicians come to share their experiences in how to help, what to look for, and how to make a better world by transforming horrific experiences into manageable ones as situations change. The expertise of the clinicians and their trials has shown how and what is important to support the infant and their mother or family to improve relations and repair what has been damaged by trauma. Physical survival and resilience are essential, but to be able to survive psychologically and emotionally, the fears and residues of traumatic beginnings have to be calmed. The idea of focusing on sharing the circumstances, the traumas, the losses, and the pain goes a long way to helping to heal by becoming a sympathetic and understanding listener who stays with the experience.
