ABSTRACT

This introduction presents an overview of the key concepts covered in the subsequent chapters of this book. The book is about people in organizations. It is about how they see the world and how they talk to each other. And it is about how they create a view of themselves and the organization through these conversations. The book is written for anyone seeking a model for helping people move away from stuck positions and difficult relationships in the workplace. It will be helpful for consultants who have a remit to address organizational problems or to increase productivity, and it will be helpful to managers who are trying to inspire individuals and who work with staff relations on a daily basis. The subsequent attribution of goodness and badness to certain positions can be understood not as internal states but as the result of further workings of other heretofore undisclosed discourses.
