ABSTRACT

The candidate should have free choice and the right to change a supervisor one time for each case. When the candidate analyses a patient from a different language and culture, reading about those problems is highly desirable. Conflicts or difficulties can be identified and left for the candidate to analyse. It helps to indicate that the supervisor had to learn, makes mistakes, and that analytic technique is imperfect. Meetings of all the supervisors of a problem candidate can be helpful if it seems impossible to decide a candidate's qualifications. For graduation, the candidate should be able to analyse male and female patients without supervision, but with the realization that consultation should always be a consideration. It is assumed that the supervisor will be aware of the supervisory alliance and relationship and of the difficulties of evaluating the candidate, his or her patient, and the analytic process.
