ABSTRACT

The teaching that really works in getting teachers engaged with systemic thinking is the teaching that gives people the experience of participating in a co-evolving system. The working partnership between us (D.C. and R.D.) as teachers can also be seen as a co-evolving process from which the participants might learn. While there are differences in style which influence the way the teachers teach, they are affected by and interested in what each other has to say. During a workshop the authors tend to alternate taking charge of a discussion and exercises, in order to create differences for the participants and give each other the chance to step back, rest and observe the process of teaching and learning. We tend to engage different kinds of people in different ways. D.C. engages certain kinds of people better than R.D., and vice versa. Showing that interest allows course participants to experience, in another way, being part of a co-evolving process and system.
