ABSTRACT

The analytical relationship consists of various layers in depth. One of these may be seen as the layer of equality, and on this the transference/counter-transference dynamism has its main field of action. The idea of the twin pair is derived from Jung's thesis in which thinking as well as feeling in opposites features. The psychoanalysts, who, on the whole, were much earlier aware of the counter-transference phenomenon, used to regard it as an unavoidable but undesirable element in analysis. The incarnation of the archetype which some analysts undertake for the patient, contributes the principal argument in favour of the acceptance of counter-transference. Before illustrating some dangers encountered in analytical therapy, the author like to repeat that he is using the term counter-transference in describing the libidinous flow as a whole as it emanates from the personality of the analyst towards that of the analysand.
