ABSTRACT
Autistic phenomena speak about human beings who have retreated into an isolated world of non-existence. The frozen autistic desert as a zone of the mind and its mysteries has drawn the attention of psychoanalytic authors because of its characteristics of isolation and disconnection, which seem to take an opposite direction from that of evolution and mental development. Sensuous impressions are the raw material from which embryonic thought can evolve when it is transformed into alpha elements. Rudimentary consciousness is associated with beta elements that can be defined as sensuous impressions experienced as if they were things-in-themselves. In the evolution of consciousness towards being aware, sensuous and emotional impressions combine and form ideogrammatic elements, which are the matrixes of embryonic thought, and which can then be used to form dream-thoughts, unconscious waking thoughts, and commonsense. Sensuous and emotional impressions transformed into alpha elements are used to form ideograms, and the ideogrammatic system makes a first sketch of ideas.
