ABSTRACT

People who are curious have an added dimension to their lives. They have an insatiable appetite for information and knowledge and can appreciate new places, new people, and new experiences as the adventure that they are. Although scientists are not yet able to define the precise mechanisms through which curiosity enhances our abilities, they do know that the thirst for knowledge, the desire to learn, and the ability to remain open to what experience has to teach all have positive effects on our emotional well-being. An intrinsic love of learning refers to an inherent desire for knowledge and experience. The very act of engaging with ones learning process sparks a sense of enjoyment and stimulation. Extrinsic learning is all about pursuing a means to an end. One may well be very motivated to learn but they acquire knowledge largely for strategic purposes, such as passing an exam or gaining a promotion that will lead to tangible rewards.
