ABSTRACT

The subject who comes into analysis or therapy wants to attribute all knowledge to the analyst. The therapist and the group know that Brent has been talking for some time about leaving the group. The subject has come into existence through the desire of the parents, and this desire has been communicated one way or another through language. The child’s first name has a central role in this communication. The role of the analyst is to attend to the analysand’s desire, a desire that is related to a lack. In the transference, the analyst takes the place of that object that the analysand searches for. In taking this role, the analyst brings the analysand to confront his/her desire. The dialogue of the group is organised around the word cult, taken from the dream. The therapist uses this signifier to bring associations and comments from the group members on the role of the group and the therapist.
