ABSTRACT

From the anal stage to adulthood, various forms of gifts may represent symbolisation of the original body productions, as well as sublimation of giving self-productions. Most people enjoy the anal, symbolised, or sublimated form of giving gifts as an expression of love, especially to their dearest ones, and expect to be rewarded for their generosity. The marvellous process of language acquisition has been a constant source of fascination for psychologists, linguists, philosophers, and neuroscientists. At the beginning of the anal stage, the toddler wants to make full use of his new language acquisition and to express himself verbally. From the anal stage onward, the toddler invests so much in words, language, and communication that they become his narcissistic assets. The anal stage marks the beginning of a willingness to engage in dialogue in the shared space with interlocutors who facilitate a flow of sensory communication through verbal language.
