ABSTRACT

Picasso was born in 1881 as the eldest child of Jose Ruiz y Blasco and Maria Picasso y Lopez, into a middle-class family from Malaga in Andalucia, at the southern tip of Spain. There are at least three main features that stand out in Picasso’s adult character: his industrious creativity, strong personality, and being an incorrigible “Don Juan”. His industrious creativity could be the consequence of a powerful and ambitious need to achieve, possibly in competition with his father in order to obtain his mother’s recognition and love, among many other factors; his strong and determined personality could be the result of the attention and worship bestowed by all the women who surrounded him as a child. Picasso was often involved in affairs with several other women, often with two or three at the same time, who provided great inspiration for his work, although in some cases at a great cost, since two of them became mentally ill and two others committed suicide.
