ABSTRACT

In this chapter, the author describes focuses on the changing role of the head teacher and how the consultative process has had to adapt to the changing context of the work. The consultative process consists of creating conditions for the consultees to utilize their inner resources and potential: to make their own decisions and to build resources to live with the consequences of those decisions. The consultant needs to be aware and understand the possible mixed feelings and different views and beliefs that might develop in relation to his or her presence in the school, particularly if there is an exclusive relationship with the head teacher. Preserving a regular time with the head teacher has proved an essential aspect of the project. A head in a primary school has a pivotal role in maintaining and developing the relationship between parents and teachers.
