ABSTRACT

William Blake ends his prophetic poem The Four Zoas with a paean to the extraordinary wonders of science, as Urizen is restored to his former glory. Having relinquished his aspiration to Godhead and dominance, he becomes again a brilliant, luminous, and energetic power within the brain and body of man, a shining “emissary”. Urthona raises from the ruinous wallsIn all his ancient strength to form the golden armour of scienceFor intellectual War The war of swords departed the dark Religions are departed & sweet Science reigns. Science has been returned to the human imagination, and therefore to the human. The “God” of the Urizenic left hemisphere has been transmuted in this process and once again becomes angelic and as soon as he does this, in Blake’s poem, he immediately resumes his former brilliance. Science will become beautiful when it becomes scientific again.
