ABSTRACT

In this chapter, the author explores the processes of change and balance as reflected in the hexagrams for the contemporary reader. Sun, representing wood or a new shoot, lies beneath Kun, Earth, and is pushing its way upwards. The presence of Chen, the trigram of spring, suggests that the seedling will be well supported and nurtured. The growing shoot adapts to obstacles and to exposure and continues to rise, bending and growing without haste. In human life, too, new growth occurs whenever and wherever it is encouraged and supported. The hexagram shows us clearly the natural energy and impulse of life. In human life, too, new growth occurs whenever and wherever it is encouraged and supported. In spite of all that has been said, having committed oneself to the energy of life and growth, a certain sadness or regret about what has been left behind may well be experienced.
