ABSTRACT

Sex becomes less frequent, less urgent, and moves from being an opening up and exploration by two people of one another to becoming a block between them, an act surrounded by expectations, disappointment, worry or routine. The sexual imprint that Carol and Maria visited on one another's bodies transformed each of them physically, often leaving them aching for reconnection. The downturn in Carol and Maria's sexual life occurred eighteen months to two years into their relationship. The sexual relationship of the couple can continue to be their private language designating the place of intimacy, of emotional refuelling. Money, like sex, is a channel for the expression of many emotions and how it is handled by individuals and in couples becomes a way in which issues around giving and receiving, control, separation, commitment, sameness and difference are played out.
