ABSTRACT

It is often the case that the sense of possibility can only be conveyed through a painful and engaged confrontation of the strong feelings of angst which the patient brings to sessions. The contact of the consciousness with those aspects of the unconscious nature gives back hope, as it allows us to perceive the possibility of feeling that we are once again making progress/becoming. It is not rational comprehension of the possibility of a way out of the “labyrinth of psychic discomfort” that is most useful during therapy, but rather contact by the consciousness with constellated symbolic content within the patient themselves, and with their emotional quantum, that is essential. The author states that what the analyst attempts to do during therapy is to activate the transcendent function, “as a possibility of putting into contact the consciousness and the unconscious, inciting the potential for change and development”.
