OnWednesday8October2003theFrenchNational Assemblypassedabillintendedtoregulate,forthefirst time,thepracticeofpsychotherapyinFrance.Movedby BernardAccoyer,amedicaldoctorandmemberofthe UnionforaPopularMovement,theconservativePartyof whichJacquesChiracisamember,thepurposeofthelegislationwastorestrictthepracticeofpsychotherapyto psychiatristsandclinicalpsychologists;itwouldeffectivelynolongerbelegalforanyotherpractitioners,includingpsychoanalysts,topracticeinthesphereofmental health.
