ABSTRACT

The investigation reports several allegations brought against the army by Private Williams’ family. Army recruits are given training in abuse first-hand through the culture of the training facilities. In the training facilities, the conscious rationalisation is that abuse is not institutionally intended. The fear feeds the abuse and is savoured by the abuser. This is the nature of sadism. There is a vital need not to get caught in the perverse process that creates enemies and fear and perverts them into an opportunity for the outpouring of rage and wrath. Bullying ranks highly as a workplace problem, as do its more specific forms found in sexual and racial harassment. An emphasis on reconciliation seems the positive side to the concern about abusive social situations. Rage itself is a primitive emotion in the sense that it is one of the very early emotions experienced by the infant.
