ABSTRACT

Shamdasani's research now demonstrates that Miss Miller had been a student of the professor and Swiss academic Theodore Flournoy, and had studied under him for a term at the University of Geneva (Shamdasani, 1990). Unlike Miss Miller, who identified more with the themes of the hero and heroism, in Liber Novus Jung takes a very different position as Siegfried's assassin. It is important to remember that the mythological hero dies early and no hero dies an old man, as the phase of old age belongs to the cycle of the wise old man. This is why the renunciation of the hero is so important, as he dies after he has completed his task, leaving the world of the conscious and returning to the collective unconscious where he came from. The English psychoanalyst Donald Winnicott wrote a famous and highly controversial review on Memories, Dreams, Reflections (1989).
