ABSTRACT

When given the opportunity to change things within their own organization, most people will have an idea of what it is like for them in the present and what they want things to be like in the future. Social constructionism has been influenced by the concept of the problem-determined system, articulated by Anderson et al. They proposed that through a series of relationships and conversations within a multidisciplinary team of professionals working together on a difficult mental-health case, a system evolves around the shared idea of a problem. Social constructionists frequently have to answer the charge that they are guilty of rampant relativism, whereby nothing is true and the consultant never has to take a stand for or against one particular reality. Every organization is socially constructed through action, the performative function of language. Therefore, it is essential that values are discussed as the bases for action.
