ABSTRACT

A Tavistock learning group, which by design removes the everyday distractions that obfuscate these metaphoric expressions, methodically seeks to identity and overtly comment on them. The intention of the method and frame is to make these metaphoric expressions “seen” and “understood” for what they could possibly represent, so they can then be worked with in a more conscious manner. It Whistle-blowing activities happens in many instances, and can be highlighted in a Tavistock learning group. The conference was underway and the difficult task of learning from experience had started. Tavistock perspective on the human psychological condition, the Tavistock methodology, and the requirements for experiential learning are often reacted to in an unfavorable light. It affords the possibility that profound learnings happen in the “learning space” of the group and can be translated to the many other groups people find themselves. Tavistock learning groups are not group psychotherapy, are not structured in a traditional fashion nor are they facilitator-led endeavors.
