ABSTRACT

The stories we tell or imagine about ourselves, our child, our partner, or family are always important. The reason for this is that whether we are young or old, our narratives of self contribute to the creation of understanding of ourselves. The goal is that, through the story, and motivated by curiosity and wonder, we, along with our partner, will gain greater understanding of the connection between our present feelings and similar emotions and images we recollect from our childhood and youth. The story may be colourful when it contains many descriptions of the emotions of the storyteller and the other characters involved. In a way, the story can be understood both as a new narrative about the past and also as an expression of a new development in the direction of a greater overview and maturity in the person who tells the story.
