ABSTRACT
THE winter of 1905-1906 I spent abroad. After I had passed my college entrance examinations in the spring of 1905 my mother, my sister Anna, and I went to Berlin. We were accompanied on this trip by my mother’s younger sister, Aunt Eugenia, and by my sister’s companion, an elderly unmarried woman of German origin.
