ABSTRACT

Sigmund Freud’s Totem and Taboo presents a social and historical point of view, and deciphers with great logic the origin of religions. The hypothesis, formulated by Freud, obviously links men to the image of God as the glorified representation of the murdered father. The hypothesis which states that imprinting will determine the future relevance of women demonstrates the predominance of biology and scientific logic over any other form of human argumentation. It will decide the place rational thinking will occupy in the future, once the magic obscurantism of religion and primitive reasoning is replaced by the prospect of a scientific rationale. If the beginning of humanity was dominated by magic and religion, the future will be ruled by the power of scientific and logical reasoning. However, Melanie Klein, the psychoanalyst who probably introduced the most significant contributions to psychoanalysis since Freud, presented a different conception of the Oedipus complex.
