ABSTRACT

This chapter outlines the essential ingredients of experiential dynamic psychotherapies, orientating the reader to the practice of Intensive Experiential-Dynamic Psychotherapy (IE-DP). It reviews the ingredients of Experiential Dynamic Therapy (EDT) from the perspective of the author who leans towards Intensive IE-DP. The chapter discusses the main features characterising IE-DP, to assist the reader in identifying where the account of EDT. As a therapeutic approach, IE-DP highlights three key characteristics: the real relationship between patient and therapist, deep experience of feelings, and experiential-dynamic technical interventions. A system of coding was developed to assist the reader in making sense of the clinical dialogue and the therapeutic activities of the therapist. These include taking care of the real relationship, mirroring, history taking, perspective, and portrayal and high technical content interventions, that is, defence restructuring, emotional maieutics, anxiety regulation, dealing with Superego, making dynamic links, and restructuring representations of self and others.
