ABSTRACT

In this chapter, the author presents a case history of child Ruth of 8 years old. He aims to provide this child's drawing in which she caught the feeling of becoming deprived and of feeling hopeless. Having recaptured this experience in full consciousness in the supporting setting of the therapeutic consultation Ruth immediately lost the compulsion to steal, and the lying disappeared along with this. There were also favourable changes in her total personality, as is usual in such cases, and the school quickly forgot that they had been bothered about her and that they had actually asked her to leave. In a therapeutic consultation Ruth, was able to remember and relive the distress that belonged to the time of her becoming a deprived child, and she was able to illustrate this in a drawing. The experience was a therapeutic one for Ruth, and the changes in Ruth benefited the whole family.
