ABSTRACT

A particular difficulty in an abuse case like Jean's is the certainty that surrounds manifest atrocity. Jean was horribly abused by an uncle in childhood. Jean was a victim of evil, and she felt evil. Only a basically evil person knew basic evil. What was done to one is one—such is self-nulling logic in sub-zero worlds where innocence is degraded, invaded, polluted, if not lost. Self-nulling tendencies are both expressed and maintained by processes that surface in dreams. This chapter emphasizes a fairly common top-bottom mix-up where bad self-feelings are concerned. Many people dream of shitting through their mouth, and some also dream of defecating food, suggesting some fusion of mouth-anus, eating-defecating. An important variation is the fusion of respiration-digestion, as breathing through the anus, which passes wind. There are many phrases in common speech that suggest top-bottom inversions and fusions, usually derogatory.
