ABSTRACT

This introduction presents an overview of the key concepts discussed in the subsequent chapters of this book. The book provides unique, multi-faceted, and rich perspectives on what happens when ordinary clinicians become MindBody clinicians; committed to non-dualistic, whole person healthcare. It explores the nature of the intimate healing space that exists between and around two persons, drawing on M. Heidegger, Martin Buber, Merleau Ponty and others. The book describes a psychotherapist with the unlikely background of microbiology and dairy farming, and presents the role of the therapist’s body in the clinical space much further than most psychotherapists would ever contemplate. It explains a general medical practitioner and counsellor, also reveals the inside experience of the doctor confronted by the limitations of her profession, a journey triggered by her own illness, and the lack of clinical solutions for that illness. The book shows that her profession often disregard clients’ personal stories, even though these are frequently evident and accessible.
