ABSTRACT

George was a tall 42-year-old man, who was initially dressed as if living in a time warp, with ill-fitting, old-fashioned and often shabby clothes from a different socioeconomic class. He showed signs of tardive dyskinesia; his fingers were gnarled and bent in the way characteristic of too much antipsychotic medicine for far too long. He was on 150mg of Loxitane per day and had been on high doses of this and many other antipsychotics. George had begun to believe that the Mafia was pursuing him, when he became convinced that his dentist, who happened to be his father’s dentist, had implanted a transmitter that was being monitored by the Mafia at his father’s request. The Mafia knew everything and would report to his father instantaneously every thought he had, and certainly every action he took. Finally George felt solid enough to begin to confront life. He began to see how he formed delusions at the slightest provocation.
