ABSTRACT

This introduction presents an overview of the key concepts discussed in the subsequent chapters of this book. The book explores various aspects of violence and the attendant emotional, psychological, biological, and social features that may be found to accompany these states in children. It highlights the importance of prevention and early intervention and the implicit use of therapy to help children who are in these vulnerable and dangerous states of mind and body. The book also explores about the simple and complex dynamics that are woven into each and every child’s history. It presents important concepts and thoughts that have direct relevance to the violent child. The book discusses the research, intervention, and collaboration within the complex arena of working with violent children. It also discusses many examples of play taking place within various therapeutic environments, and considers the multifaceted functions of play for the child.
