ABSTRACT

This chapter discusses the family, colleagues, and the management at the workplace can help the person who has lost control of his or her work habits. It deals with what can generally be done to prevent a rise in the number of workaholics in the future. The chapter focuses on the experiences of three former worka-holics, who share with us how they achieved a better balance in their lives. Staying in touch with your feelings and needs takes peace and quiet. If you lead a very active, and maybe even hectic, life, peacefulness, introspection, and a slow pace are necessary as a counterbalance. Stress is one of the problems connected with work addiction. Workaholics often overwork themselves, physically as well as mentally, by being, in some way or another, preoccupied with their job twenty-four hours a day. A family’s standards with regard to spending time together may help to prevent or stop someone’s disappearance into his own world of work.
