ABSTRACT

This chapter suggests how to round out writers’ writing and how to make conversational writing more formal or formal writing more conversational. The natural strengths of an Extravert include talking out ideas, thinking while doing, leaping into tasks, using trial and error to problem solve, and thinking quickly. While Extraverts need to make writing more like talking, Introverts usually need to find some quiet time to do their drafting. Even when they revise extensively, they may prefer to make the kinds of changes that they want to make, instead of reworking a manuscript to suit the views of others. The revisions of Sensing types, however, must overcome what is lacking in their first drafts. When writing revisions, especially for professional audiences, Feeling types may need to focus on toughening up their language, trying to get to the point in fewer words, and presenting criteria or "road signs" for the emerging direction of their thoughts.
