ABSTRACT

In this chapter, the authors emphasize how Thinking types and Feeling types go about making decisions on the emphasis and tone of their writing, the one type favoring an emotional distance (T), and the other type favoring personalization (F). Thinking (T) and Feeling (F) are two different ways we approach decision making in order to arrive at conclusions and make judgments. Thinking is more objective, while Feeling is more personal. The following two paragraphs were both written by Sensing types. However, one is a Sensing Thinking type (ST) and the other a Sensing Feeling type (SF). Thinking is a process of decision making that follows logic. Thinking types establish criteria from which they make their judgments, and they make these standards as objective as possible. The Thinking-Feeling dimension seems reflected in many of his comments: In the operating room the patient must be anesthetized in order that he feel no pain.
