ABSTRACT

Learning to learn involves becoming an effective learner and knowing how to manage one’s own learning processes. Effective learners seek and compare sources of knowledge and make use of online networks for advice and support. Mindful learning encourages full attention on what is important, balanced by the investment in time to gain that full attention. Learning to learn courses can indicate how to diagnose learning needs, set goals, find valuable resources including other people to learn with, choose learning strategies, reflect on progress, develop creative skills and evaluate personal learning outcomes. Many software tools have been developed to support learning to learn, including Personal Learning Environments, e-portfolios and concept mappers. Personal learning environments provide a set of personal tools for learning. These can include tools to set goals and manage the progress of learning projects, self-assessment surveys, resources including guides to successful learning and ways to access and communicate with other learners.
