ABSTRACT
Open pedagogy involves students, with teachers, revising and remixing material from open textbooks and other sources, such as videos and pictures, that are free of copyright. The aim is for students to learn by re-creating teaching resources in ways that make the editorial processes and creative products visible to themselves and others. Open pedagogy emphasizes open content alongside open and distributed practices, such as working together to edit an article. Open pedagogy is both an ideology and a practice. As an ideology, it extends the Open Educational Resources movement which is committed to making high-quality educational resources available to anyone who has a need or desire to learn. As a practice, students learn by grasping the essence of a topic then teaching it to others through clear and concise text. Alongside more open access to education comes a commitment to pedagogy where students critique and re-shape their educational resources.
