ABSTRACT

Most advisory services provide advice and support to schools on a wide range of problems in the teaching of slow learners, their work is unmistakably concentrated on the teaching of reading and its associated problems. It should be pointed out that most advisory services include the word 'remedial' in their titles, using the term in the more general and usual sense than it has been used. The objectives of the advisory services appear to be to assemble, evaluate and disseminate information on techniques, materials and equipment for the education of slow learners, especially in language and reading; to give general support and advice to teachers both directly and through in-service training. The advisory teachers who man the service must have the personal integrity to organize their own time effectively, and be allowed the freedom to do so.
