ABSTRACT

The natural gas distribution business is for the last-mile connectivity to users of natural gas as a source of energy. The firms engaged in this business are also called natural gas utilities. Natural utility firms supply natural gas to various customer segments (i.e., industrial, commercial, transport, and households). This business requires firms to lay build, operate, and expand the natural gas distribution network according to the policies of the local governments.

Constructing natural gas transportation networks in congested and populated city areas is a challenging task that involves not only capital, labor, and equipment, but also intense coordination with other utilities and agencies. These projects must be completed in time and without an escalation of costs. Thus, city gas distribution companies and local distribution companies must adopt the best practices of project management. This chapter discusses the project management aspects of the natural gas distribution business.
