ABSTRACT

My name is Andrew Bergdahl. I am a teacher of high school mathematics. I coach my school’s math team, and both of my degrees are in math—but they were very nearly in linguistics. In college, I fell in love with phonology and morphology, and linguistic analysis was my best class. Though none of the linguists in that course thought of themselves as mathematically minded—in fact, they held me in a sort of reverence for my major—I saw how much computation and logic was built into the study of language. I took as many linguistics classes as I could in order to enrich my understanding of math.
