ABSTRACT

This chapter provides an analysis of the current state of sustainable development of tourism and environmental education in Georgia; and development of the incentive mechanisms for their development. It also provides the recommendations related to the issue, envisaging the top order undertakings of the government and the model of the system approach to the sustainable development of tourism and environmental education. Eco-tourism, as the primary direction of sustainable tourism, shall be recognized as the primary economic means ensuring alternative income sources for the local population as on protected areas as well as on adjacent territories. Eco-tourism is a segment of sustainable tourism implying visits to relatively calm natural landscapes, including protected areas. Ecological education is the multi-disciplinary training forming environmental awareness, values and skills allowing the society to participate in the maintenance and improvement of the environment. Sustainability of universal fundamental values conditions diversity of moral confidence towards the environment serving as the basis and outcome of ecotourism.
