ABSTRACT

In this introduction to the second section, Valerie Bridgeman waxes poetic on the spiritual longing and significance of Beyoncé to various black church communities. She engages her own memories of spending time at Knowles’s home congregation as a means to situate the iconic singer as not only a believer, but also as one who transcends denominations. This reflection is an apt introduction to the section in which scholars take a deep dive into the spiritual machinations of Lemonade.
